Lift Sagging Cheeks for a Refreshed, Natural Appearance

Sagging cheeks can make your face look tired and deepen the folds beside your nose and mouth. A mid facelift can address these changes while preserving the features that make you look like yourself. At Chegar Facial Plastic Surgery, Dr. Burke E. Chegar performs mid facelift surgery at our Carmel office for patients throughout the Indianapolis area.

What Is a Mid Facelift?

A mid facelift, also called a midface lift or cheek lift, is a type of facelift surgery that raises sagging cheek tissue. It focuses on the middle of the face, between the lower eyelids and the corners of the mouth.

The procedure lifts the natural fat pads that give the cheeks their shape. Restoring their position can improve the appearance of cheeks that have become flatter or heavier with age.

Is a Mid Facelift Right for You?

You may be a candidate if sagging cheeks are your main concern and your jawline and neck need less correction. Dr. Chegar examines your cheeks, skin, and lower eyelids to determine whether a mid facelift can provide the improvement you want.

You should be in good overall health, avoid smoking, and have realistic expectations about surgery. During your consultation, discuss previous facial procedures, injectable treatments, and any medications or conditions that could affect healing.

How Mid Facelift Surgery Is Performed

During a mid facelift, Dr. Chegar lifts the supporting cheek tissues and secures them in a higher position. He adjusts the overlying skin to follow the lifted contours and closes the incisions. Their placement depends on the surgical technique and whether another procedure is included.

If the cheeks, jawline, and neck all need attention, a more comprehensive approach may be appropriate. Dr. Chegar’s preferred deep plane facelift technique can address sagging across these areas.

Midface lifting is generally performed as an outpatient procedure. After a monitored recovery period, you can return home with an adult who can drive you and help during the first day. Dr. Chegar will explain your anesthesia and surgical plan before the procedure.

Recovering From a Mid Facelift

Expect some swelling and bruising around your cheeks and lower eyelids. Your face may feel tight, and your cheeks may initially look fuller than expected. These changes gradually improve as the swelling subsides.

Many patients allow about one to two weeks before returning to work and social activities. You may need more time depending on the extent of surgery and how you heal. Some swelling can remain for several weeks as your cheek contours become more defined.

We will provide instructions for caring for your incisions, keeping your head elevated, and limiting activity. Dr. Chegar will let you know when you can safely return to exercise and other strenuous activities.

Benefits of a Mid Facelift

A mid facelift can refresh the central face by addressing changes caused by sagging cheek tissue. Depending on your needs, surgery may provide:

  • More defined cheeks: Lifts tissue that has settled lower on the face.
  • A smoother contour beneath the eyes: Improves the connection between the lower eyelids and cheeks.
  • Softer smile lines: Reduces the prominence of folds running from the nose toward the mouth.

The improvement can last for years, although your face will continue to change with age. Results vary with your facial structure, skin quality, and surgical plan.

How Much Does a Mid Facelift Cost?

Mid facelift cost depends on the technique, the amount of correction needed, and whether surgery is combined with another procedure. Operating time, anesthesia, and facility fees also affect the price.

After your consultation, we will provide an estimate based on Dr. Chegar’s recommendations. Our team can also answer questions about pricing and payment options.

Mid Facelift FAQs

A mid facelift treats sagging around the cheeks and beneath the lower eyelids. A lower facelift focuses on jowls and loose tissue along the jawline. Dr. Chegar can recommend the appropriate approach based on where you need correction.
Fillers or facial fat transfer may be appropriate when the cheeks have lost fullness but have little sagging. A mid facelift lifts tissue that has moved downward. If both changes are present, combining cheek lifting with volume restoration may be helpful.
A mid facelift can smooth the area where the lower eyelids meet the cheeks, but under-eye bags may need separate treatment. Lower eyelid surgery addresses excess eyelid fat or skin and can sometimes be combined with cheek lifting.
Possible risks include bleeding, infection, uneven results, and changes in sensation or facial movement. Dr. Chegar will discuss the risks of your recommended procedure and explain how your health and surgical history may affect them.
