Restylane Silk Plumps Your Lips
Restylane Silk was the first product approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for lip augmentation and smoothing lines around the mouth. It was already a trusted treatment in Europe and Canada a few years before gaining acceptance and ground in the U.S.
This specialized injectable dermal filler comes under the Restylane umbrella of fillers manufactured by Galderma, an established brand in dermatology.
What Is It Made Of?
Restylane Silk is the latest hyaluronic acid filler in the trusted Restylane family. The gel consists of small, smooth particles of hyaluronic acid (HA). HA is a substance naturally present in the human body, and it is the key component in moisture retention.
The HA particles in Restylane Silk are smoother and smaller than those used in other Restylane products. The specially formulated gel is thinner and has a softer, smoother consistency; this facilitates natural-looking results. Thanks to its hyaluronic acidic base, molding and shaping are possible after the injection.
What It Can Do
As we get older, signs of aging are most noticeable in our lips and the areas around the mouth. Our lips get thinner and lose their shape, and the lines around our mouth increase.
Because Restylane Silk is a specially formulated gel, it is able to offer the following advantages:
- It reconditions the lips and helps restore volume and fullness.
- It makes the lips silkier and smoother.
- It enhances lip symmetry.
- It results in a more natural-looking shape for the lips.
- It irons out wrinkles around the mouth.
Are You a Good Candidate?
The best candidate for Restylane Silk is anyone who is 21 years or older and who requires more symmetrical or fuller lips or a reduction of the fine vertical lines in the areas around the mouth.
Avoid using Restylane Silk or any other products from the Restylane family if you have severe allergies with a history of anaphylaxis. Also avoid it if you are allergic to lidocaine or any other form of gram-positive bacteria used in HA production, if you suffer from a bleeding disorder, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
What to Expect During Treatment
A Restylane Silk treatment session can last for up to 30 minutes. Besides HA, Restylane Silk also contains lidocaine, which is a local anesthetic. This numbs the region so that it is free of any pain during the treatment, and there may be only minimal discomfort.
Once the treatment is administered, you have to avoid touching the injected areas for at least six hours. However, you can go about your business as usual. The most common side effects are redness, swelling, and soreness in the treated area. Fortunately, these effects are minor and only temporary.
The candidate may need more than one follow-up injection after the initial treatment. These are usually given over a two-week period.
The Results
Restylane Silk works its magic almost immediately – wrinkles and lines are smoothed away, and lip volume and fullness are enhanced.
Hyaluronic acid works to stimulate the production of collagen in our body. The rate at which this happens and the amount of collagen produced differ between individuals. Restylane Silk treatments last for six months on average.
In the results of a clinical study conducted by Restylane, 98% of the candidates who used Restylane Silk reported visible improvement in fullness of the lips. This was within just two weeks after their injection. An amazing 77% also reported visible improvement in fullness of the lips a whole six months after the injection.
