Indianapolis Facelift
Rhytidectomy, more commonly referred to as a facelift, is the ideal procedure to address noticeable signs of aging on the face. Both men and women interested in getting a facelift in Carmel, IN, (near Indianapolis) can receive the results they want from double board-certified facial plastic surgeon Dr. Burke E. Chegar.
What is a Facelift?
As we age, the face begins to lose its natural support due to weakening ligaments and muscles. Skin and fat pads sag under their own weight, giving the cheeks, jowls, and neck a heavier look. A facelift is used to restore the supporting structures of the face that lead to these aging features.
Why Dr. Chegar Prefers the Deep Plane Facelift
The deep plane facelift technique represents the gold standard in facial rejuvenation surgery, delivering results that can last 10-15 years or more by repositioning the deeper structural layers rather than simply pulling the skin tight. This advanced strategy preserves normal facial movement and treats multiple signs of aging simultaneously while placing less tension on the skin for more natural-looking results.
By restoring the facial skin to its more youthful position, the deep plane approach creates outcomes that evolve gracefully over time. Dr. Chegar’s expertise in this technique reflects his commitment to surgical artistry and precision, ensuring his patients achieve results that look refreshed and revitalized, rather than stretched and “overdone.”
Dr. Chegar And his staff are extremely knowledgeable, professional, and caring. After my evaluation, Dr. Chegar asked what my goals were and I told him “ I was tired of looking tired and wanted to look rested“. He explained the options he would suggest to accomplish these goals and if I chose to have surgery I could choose what was important to me. I chose to have a mini-lift, a lobe reduction, and lower Blepharoplasty. I asked Dr. Chegar about other procedures as well and he suggested I wait until after surgery to consider anything else. He felt that the procedures I chose would take care of or minimalize my concerns and I’m happy to report – it did! Dr. Chegar doesn’t do procedures just because he can, which I appreciated. I highly recommend surgery by Dr. Chegar and am very pleased with my results
Is Facelift Surgery Right for Me?
Facelift surgery is designed for those who want to address sagging skin on the face, a double chin, crease lines between the nose and the corners of the mouth, droopy cheeks, and/or loose skin around the jowls. You should be a suitable candidate for a rhytidectomy if you have realistic expectations for the treatment, are healthy, and don’t smoke.
How to Prepare for a Facelift Procedure
During your facelift consultation at Chegar Facial Plastic Surgery, you’ll be given more information about your potential procedure. It’s critical that you’re completely open and honest with Dr. Chegar about your goals, concerns, and expectations, and that you bring up any existing medical issues, previous surgeries, and drug allergies, along with any medications you’re currently taking.
Before the facelift procedure, you will be told to:
- Quit smoking
- Refrain from taking certain herbal or over-the-counter supplements or medications
- Make arrangements for someone to pick you up after surgery
How a Facelift is Performed
A facelift is an outpatient procedure completed with the aid of general anesthesia. In the deep plane facelift technique, Dr. Chegar works beneath the superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS) to access and reposition the deeper facial structures. Using carefully hidden incisions in the hairline and around the ears, Dr. Chegar releases and repositions the deep facial ligaments and muscles as a unified layer, then redrapes the overlying skin for a more youthful appearance. Excess skin may be trimmed to ensure the face’s surface is as smooth as possible.
A small incision is often made just under the chin to also help tighten the sagging muscle in the middle of the neck. This provides more comprehensive results that complement and enhance the appearance of the face. Dr. Chegar strives to provide excellent results for his patients while prioritizing safety and comfort.
Recovering from a Facelift
Afterward, a soft support dressing is placed around the face. The dressing and any drains are removed the following day. Recovery from a facelift is typically two weeks. Swelling and bruising are to be expected but will subside over time. Use ice packs for the first 72 hours after surgery to decrease swelling. Any pain or discomfort can be managed through medication under the guidance of Dr. Chegar.
Following his directions carefully during recovery is the best way to achieve an excellent outcome after facelift surgery. Take care not to strain your face too much, and avoid excessive facial movement for the first week or so.
Strenuous activities should be avoided for at least three weeks. Be sure to protect your facial skin from excessive sun exposure. Smoking is strictly forbidden.
